Walking around Lucera: a charming travel between history and reality
Le Nicchie Guest House is located in a pleasant countryside surrounded by wheat and olive trees, very close to Lucera old town center.
When you first come to Lucera, you can never imagine falling in love with it!
The city is land with a thousand flatteries and is full of sights. It offers the opportunity to run interesting historic-artistic routes in the old town center alleys between palaces, squares, towering churches.
An essential stop-over is the cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is one of the most typical examples of Apulian gothic architecture, located in the heart of Lucera.
You cannot pass over the gorgeous basilica Saint Francis fourteenth-century that shields the remains of Lucera’s “Padre Maestro” Saint Francesco Antonio Fasani.
Trampling on the typical “Chianche” (the characteristic stone floor covering the old town center), you can reach the huge fortress surrounding the palace of emperor Frederick II. It houses the ruins of a Roman acropolis inside a 900 m wall studded with towers, bastions and buttresses.
The presence of classical and pre-classical civilizations is testified by fine collections at the Urban Archaeological Museum “Giuseppe Fiorelli” as well as the majestic amphitheater dedicated to Augustus – one of the largest in Southern Italy.
So, dear guests, a travel in Apulia would not be a complete trip without visiting Lucera!
